José Luis Cuerda «In Tiempo después, Cuerda imagines a future reduced to a skyscraper (Torres blancas) erected in the middle of the desert of reality. On the outside, the class struggle continues to enjoy as good health as it has since the moment someone knew how to name it. The codes that govern this micro-universe of civil guards, poetic barbers, exasperating janitors and some everlasting archetypes will be occasionally destabilized by the revolutionary gesture of a lemonade seller. Underneath the humor, the filmmaker’s disenchantment with a world in free fall is palpable».
The sheep, already on the roof, begin to graze on the grass surrounding the pool. Some girls, sunbathing on the ground, get up and address the shepherd. -We’re in your way here? No. No, we’re not. The animals are already making a living for themselves: «How beautifully you raise your cattle,» says one of them to please, «You are also very rich. Do you give milk? The interlocutor blushes: «Not yet, no.» «Well, in that, the shepherdesses are better. Well, sheep are better at that.

The enchanted forest

«It’s a rare film. That’s why it was hard to make it. The moment you have to think a little, people get out of line&rdquor, says the director with the sharp irony that has always characterized him. «That’s why I’m so grateful to everyone who made it possible, because without them I wouldn’t have made it&rdquor.
José Luis Cuerda is happy with the result. He has no desire to upset anyone, but in fact he confesses that, if someone gets angry, he doesn’t care. «People can get angry if they are angry&rdquor. He admits that he has not made the film to cause a certain effect, but to expose to the whole world the things he thinks. Some negative, some positive. «With that I go throwing stones&rdquor. And he does throw them. Although the social revolution that begins with the lemonade is reminiscent of the 15M, the director assures that they have nothing to do with each other, although everyone can see the metaphors they want wherever they want. «Of course I take things from the current political situation.  I am affected by what is happening in the country, but don’t think that I use it as dramatic material. I don’t know if I make political films or not. There are some who will say yes, that it’s too much. Others will say no, that I fall short. But I’m not a politician or a sociologist, what value can my discourse or what I think about these things have? It is relative&rdquor.

Everybody knows

This is the reality of the new film by José Luis Cuerda, a brilliant political-socio-philosophical comedy, in which the veteran filmmaker has unloaded all his bad blood «for everything that is happening» and where he predicts a time in which «it seems to me that everything is going to get worse, much worse».
-Do you remember the commotion that took place the day when all the traditional values of the left fell into the precipice because of a sterilizing ideological disarmament and an insultingly pragmatic political praxis? Do you remember that?
It comes out of my bad blood, but the process is complicated. Between what happens in the head and what that head produces in the present moments, there are moments that have an anguishing component and I don’t know what is the deepest.
The way things are going, it is practically, and I underline this practically, impossible to remove the foundations. It is not possible to overthrow the system; in all history there have been two, three, seven… revolutions, nothing more.
