22:15In one of Juan Manuel de Prada’s soaring reflections, I lean over to see if he is growing wings similar to the ones Montanelli wanted to see hidden under Berenson’s tuxedo, the ones that made him levitate with magisterium and without effort. «The artist, the writer,» says De Prada, although it is wrong to say it, «is chosen by God: no one is made more in his image and likeness than he is, because he is a creature and, at the same time, a creator.

J. P. A.: Thinking about the interview, I remembered when in the Cordoba of my youth people began to talk about you in the bars where some of us apprentice writers gathered. How do you remember that time, when you were a boy who already lived to write and won all the story prizes of municipalities and counties?
J. M. de P.: Don’t believe it, not at all. It’s a novel I wrote because I liked bohemian literature, I liked those novels that were fresh from an era, but I never thought of it as a novel of great ambition, or anything like that. In fact, from an imaginative point of view, I have more ambitious novels, and it was a novel that gave me everything done.
J. P. A.: In Lucía en la noche, as in La vida invisible, there is a protagonist who reminds us a lot of you. In Mirlo blanco, cisne negro, Alejandro Ballesteros, the protagonist of La tempestad, returns. They are novels that ooze life, but without autofiction.
J. M. de P.: In the first part of the novel you play a lot with the possibility that Lucia is an angel or a muse created by Alejandro himself. I believe that love is a feeling that is waiting for you to open the door at all times, yes, but it has to have a real basis. I don’t believe in ideal love, or less and less, I think it needs a real support.
