Solo lleva tilde rae
Alone only
So, does it make no difference whether you put an accent or not? Well, no: you can choose not to put an accent on «solo» used as an adverb, and that would be correct, but you should never accentuate «solo» used as an adjective or noun and, above all, you must be consistent: if you write a text and the word «solo» (used as an adverb) appears several times, you must follow the same criteria at all times, so that you can say that you are following a single rule. Not respecting coherence, although not punishable from an orthographic point of view, detracts from the quality of the text.
To give an example, in a sentence such as «solo quien está solo juega al solo», a tilde can be used on the first «solo», or not at all. But the other two «only» should never be accented. And if, subsequently, «solo» is written again with the sense of «only», the form of writing chosen the first time must be respected.
Alone or only rae
«It is an exemplary department, which users use more or less constantly», and on which we are studying the possibility of giving it a boost so that queries are made «faster», as demanded by today’s society.
Asked about the impact that social networks have had on the introduction of new terms, he explained that this has been important but has not had a greater impact than in other fields such as science.

Adverb only
Why look for the inclusion of another element, a change in the words or a synonym if it is so easy to make the difference with a tilde? Now it turns out that the paragraph of my most famous novel will have to be changed accordingly, so that in the end it will not express what I originally wanted to express.
I am very happy with the work of the RAE. However, I believe that no institution is bigger than the language, so any new recommendation should be critically considered rather than just accepted.
My very own opinion of me is that this new rule complicates things. You are right to point out that it does indeed remove something, the tilde, but by the same token the other elements recommended by the RAE should be added when the case is ambiguous.
Anyway, as Santiago says, it is a relatively minor issue that for some reason raises passions. In the end, the important thing is that the sentence/message is understood. It is very good that this «controversy» exists because this is how language evolves xD
