The jungle book movie
Disney is going through a particularly successful period. Theirs are their traditional cartoon classics, but also Marvel’s superheroes, Pixar’s jewels or the new Star Wars movies. Just by making these films, they would already be making profits that would be the envy of any other production company, but they are not satisfied with that and have also entered the fashion for real image adaptations of great works of animated cinema.
The enormous success of the film starring Robert Downey Jr. was enough for him to be commissioned to shoot the second installment, considered by many as the worst Marvel movie to date. Perhaps that is why he was not chosen for ‘The Avengers’ and he himself decided not to take on ‘Iron Man 3’, where he did participate as an actor, but the director’s chair was taken by Shane Black.
This is by no means the first time that Rudyard Kipling’s book has been adapted to the big screen. Many will mainly remember the animated classic directed by Wolfgang Reitherman for Disney in 1967 -it is to be expected that the film in question resembles it above all as it shares the same producer-, but it is also worth noting the one made by Zoltan Korda in 1942 or the one starring Jason Scott Lee in 1994.

Blessed be digital cinema and advances in technology. Without them, this new adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s novel would not have been possible. It is worth looking back at the films that have been cinematic milestones in terms of the use of CGI. George Lucas and his intergalactic saga, Steven Spielberg and his prehistoric animals, and James Cameron and his rebellion of the machines and the Titanic disaster.
What was the highest-grossing film in history became the epitome of CGI. A more than deserving title that the new version of ‘The Jungle Book’ comes to overshadow in a resounding way. From the hand of Jon Favreau, to whom we owe ‘Zathura. A Space Adventure’ (2005), ‘Iron-Man’ and ‘Iron Man 2’ (2008 and 2010), we travel to the immensity of the jungle. An environment that, although it has been created from nothing in an absolutely digital way, becomes an ideal place to live one of the stories whose hymn to nature and values are presented throughout a representation of the archetypal imaginary of the eternal struggle between good and evil.

Due to his characteristic pachuco costumes in several of his films, Tin Tan, as Valdés is better known, is a characteristic figure of that counterculture, besides being baptized and known as «Elvis Presley of the Pachucos» due to his help popularizing them in Mexico and being a pioneer in dance, something essential that a pachuco must know how to do.[6] There are some statues erected in honor of Valdés being represented with his character «Tin Tan» that are located in Mexico City, Ciudad Juárez, and Acapulco.

The creators of The Ritual, one of Netflix’s most acclaimed horror films, are behind this story of the haunted house subgenre. It is well made, has a not too clear intention to denounce the situation of immigrants in the United States -the protagonist is a Mexican woman who seeks a better life and settles in a kind of boarding house for cursed women-, and also a surprising final twist… But, beyond that, it is still just another movie with the usual ghostly clichés and not particularly entertaining either. The plot isn’t exactly original: a Marseille police squad tries to reduce the embarrassing crime record their town holds, with methods that increasingly cross red lines. It’s fine in the sense that the action is fast-paced, realistic and aggressive, so it packs a lot of punch in that respect, but it falters in the underlying message it delivers, which has something of a caricature and dangerous populism.Netflix Movies 2021: Tales as Night Falls (now available).
