At the end we confirm Lola’s identity and realize that it is not a silly lyric but a reasoning made into a song. But, although it is a virtuoso exercise in argumentation, it does not explain why it is so popular. And it is because its melody is the reason, since it is a proven musical line for several generations: the same of ‘Arroz con leche’ (would it be more than a ‘Despacito’, a ‘Waka Waka’, because of the original Cameroonian song?).
Of course, this modern version shares something with the original: it has nothing to do with the dessert recipe. And it’s a real shame, because it misses the opportunity to make culinary pedagogy by rhyming the verbs of cooking (prepare, turn off, shout…).
An hour of listening to the nursery rhymes with which many of us grew up is enough to set off the alarms of today’s politically correct ears at least 5 times, so we took the trouble to start this long work of adaptation and propose from now on some contemporary verses. I understand that my rejection is the result of my own taste, and this is culturally conditioned. Therefore, the fact that it is bad for me does not necessarily mean that a priori it is bad for her. Beyond the obviousness that the realization of the videos is bad, I can’t find a more respectful word, I could say that musically it’s questionable the simplicity, the cheapness of the lyrics and the production; a lot of midi, little real instrument. But although we did them with a lot of love, the same could be said of some of the things we did for pakapaka, some are simple and many were made with limited productions. Better or worse? I don’t know.
On the other hand, seeing Pipi really enjoy these songs and screaming for them makes me try to go beyond my own preferences. Try to find something good there. And I must say that those songs were important in the development of her language. I guess if it hadn’t been those others they would have filled that space, but the fact is that she learned to talk with «La vaca Lola» and «El Gallo Bartolito» and not only to talk but also to count, sing, play and dance.
